Project Summary
Conveniently located close to our offices in Wormley Surrey, this project involved the replacement of a sewage treatment plant with a new Clenviro Matrix plant. The existing sewage treatment system was approximately 30 years old and, following a thorough inspection, we found that the internal structure had started to collapse. The only option was to replace the system.
Prior to starting the project, we carried out a detailed survey and inspection of the existing septic system. Luckily, the connected drainage field was found to be in good working order and compliant with 2020 regulations, saving the client money and simplifying the project.
The existing sewage treatment plant was a 6-person unit and replacing it provided a good opportunity upgrade and future proof the system, something the client had mentioned when we met with them to discuss the project. With this in mind, we specified a Clenviro Matrix 9 population gravity fed plant with pumped outlet connecting to the existing drainage field.
Blessed with good weather and easy access to site we completed the project in 5 days, including decommissioning the old sewage treatment plant, renewing all pipework, and landscaping works.
Strange Things We Find
We often discover interesting (and sometimes surprising) things when installing septic tanks and sewage treatment plants. While surveying for this particular project we discovered a vent pipe for the original septic system embedded in an oak tree. The owner had never noticed it before, and it transpired that it was over 80 years old. The oak tree had simply swallowed the pipe as it had grown and spread over the decades.
