- Works New rainwater soakaway
- Location Godalming, Surrey
- Property Type Private house
- Duration 1 day
- Date October 2020
Project Summary
A straight forward installation of a new rainwater soakaway with works completed on one day. The lawn to the left of the property provided sufficient area for the new soakaway and a straight run for pipework. After carefully removing an area of turf and protecting the lawn, we excavated for the new soakaway. Thick geotextile sheeting was used to line the hole before soakaway crates were installed to create the structure.
With the new soakaway constructed, we could run the new pipe work to the the rainwater downpipe at the corner of the house. The final stage was to backfill with drainage shingle and finish with topsoil before carefully replacing the turf, leaving little evidence of the works that had taken place.
Strange Things We Find
If you dig holes for a living finding ‘buried treasure’ is a perk of the job. While the things we find are rarely (ok never) valuable they are often interesting. On this particular occasion we uncovered an unusually large number of bottles and pottery, much of which was in good condition. None of the items looked to be particularly old but we amassed quite a collection of interesting bits by the end of the day.
